July 9 Another Tuesday at Gideon Wells for an Indivisible Chicago postcard party. People keep coming out to write postcards --as we continue to do the work to win in Wisconsin and Michigan even if there is increasing uncertainty about what is going to happen with the Presidential nomination. Part of the
July 8 The two of them came around the corner toward me as I crossed the street. Suddenly these "bikes" seem to be everywhere in the neighborhood. He seemed to be enjoying the ride.
July 7 Mony was speaking at the service at 2U today, so we were rushing to get there and I missed what could have been two good photos. Afterward we went to breakfast and I took this.
July 6 As I left the pier from Piping Plover monitoring (yes - we did shifts two days in a row!), I saw what appeared to be a mother and her son fishing small creatures from the pier inlet. They looked so happy together.
July 5 We were monitoring again today – and this time I was fortunate to finally get a good photo of Imani and one of the chicks as we were leaving the protected area at the end of our shift. Since they are super cute and I love this sequence of photos – there
July 4 My family always said that the corn is supposed to be knee hight on the 4th of July – but of course they were talking about sweet corn. This is field corn, and it is more than knee high, and now we have wind turbines to combat the climate crisis.
July 3 Some of us worked to put up a canopy, others sat and talked and Dulce and Cindy opted for a nap. Thank you to Mona who helped see this photo opportunity.
July 2 We joined friends today for a little out of the city glamping a few hours west of Chicago. Of course with eight of us taking turns preparing meals – it seems like all we do is eat. Here, Consuela is preparing the corn for the grill while we debate whether you
July 1 We made a quick visit to Montrose Beach this mornign after going there yesterday evening after the Pride Parade and a get together at the house – because the Piping Plovers have hatched. I dont' have any good photos yet – but I took this as we were leaving and summer
June 30 Thanks to our Mayor, the Parade was shorter and smaller than the past several years – and thanks to advocates it was longer and larger than the City wanted. The Parade is a lot of fun – but Pride is also a protest. And that is all the more reason in this
June 29 I am only guessing that this was a writing project – since they were all writing at least until she saw me with the camera. It wasn't a Friday --but we took a Saturday Plover Monitoring shift since I just got back to Chicago last night.
June 28 My last day in DC for the NWF Annual meeting, and I was able to get away for an early morning coffee with a dear friend. He was out early too – working.
June 27 There are four workers moving this piece of glass although it kind of looks like more. The first guy doesn't seem to like my camera but some of the others hammed it up right after I took this photo.
June 26 As Deputy Director of Equality Illinois, Mony was invited to the White House Pride celebration in DC. I was already going to be in DC for an NWF meeting, so Mony was able to get a +1 so I could join her at the WH. I am having lots of
June 25 Every Tuesday can't be postcard photos, but this is the best photo that I have today. And I suspect that the postcard parties will appear again.
June 24 I took this photo shortly after leaving the house. He obviously saw me take it and I smiled said thank you and said it was a great idea to have a little shade in this heat. He told me he was doing this because he has had skin cancer and
June 23 Mony and I were in Lakeview and needed a few things from a Mexican grocery store – so we went to the closest one at California and Belmont. We were waiting at the meat counter to buy cheese, and Mony commented that the store was "so Mexican", and I
June 22 Today was Pride Fest, which is not our favorite Pride event – and it was in the 90s. I did get to take a lot of photos. After signing Equality Illinois' postcard, she was adding the very large Equality Illinois button to her vest. I told Mony that maybe I
June 20 Some of my co-workers from National Wildlife Federation (NWF) and I were at the Chicago Botanical Gardens this evening where NWF hosted a screening of the documentary film Bad River about the resistance of the Bad River Band of the Lake Superior Chippewa and their campaign to shutdown Line 5.
June 19 Mony had an event to attend, so I took advantage of a walk downtown with my camera. It was hot and there were a lot of people out. So today I had some photos to choose from - including this one from different angles.
June 18 There is no better place than the Farmers Market to get petition signatures. It seems it is always political season for something. These petitions are for the election for the newly elected school board in Chicago.
June 16 Mony taught us all how to make tortillas and then fill them to make quesadillas de flor de calabaza. This is Ann using the newly learned skills. Oh, and they were delicious.
June 15 There was so much news and drama around all of the Cicadas that were going to be appearing after 17 years. People covered even covered their trees! And the cicadas did come to the western suburbs. Here in Chicago we figured that they were just going to come a little
