2024: Joy and a Balloon. Taken on Clark Street north of Fullerton in Chicago

We were on our way to the Piping Plover Monitor celebration and as we walked by this storefront these kids came running toward us. I didn't even have time to raise my camera – but I was still able to get this photo. They looked so happy.

2020: First day of school. Taken on Avers between Argyle and Ainslie in Chicago. It was the first day of school for CPS, but not like any other first day. All of Chicago public schools and most of the suburban ones are remote because of COVID. When I went for a walk -- I wanted a photo to capture that. But like a lot of photos this morning -- it is more about what is absent than what is present. However, when I went past Volta School someone (a teacher? a social worker?) was trying to get in -- and I thought it captured the moment.
2018: Everyone loves a parade. Taken on Lincoln Ave just south of Leland in Chicago. I knew there was a festival going on in Lincoln Square, but still braved going over there to go for a swim. It turned out that there was also a German parade! I guess that was excuse enought to take out the dog head mask!
2016: Mercy Now. Taken at the Hamilton at 14th and F in Washington DC.
2012: Picking out the right one. Taken at the Evanston Farmers' Market.
