September 30

We went to Montrose this evening to try to see the Horned Larks on the beach. We started on one end of the protected beach and were told that they had just flown to the other end. So we crossed the protected area that is now open to get to the other side only to find that they had flown off again. So no Horned Lark sighting for us. However everyone was excited that a Say's Phoebe was hanging out in the dunes. They are very rare in the Midwest – but common in Aguascalientes where we had seen them. So, it was cool to see it here and to get some good photos of it – especially this one in flight (and in focus!).
