2024:The One Thing I Could Fix. Taken on Sunnyside east of Lincoln in Chicago.
There will be so much that we have to do to resist what is coming and to move toward some greater justice, but for today, the only that I could fix was the garage. And damn – I did manage to hang all three kayaks on one wall, while Mony cleaned up the the back and front yards. I am not sure that this qualifies as "self care", but it does feel good. And as I post the photos from yesterday, today and the ones to come and try to come to terms with the sadness and anger that I hold, I am feeling again the raw emotions that my photos and descriptions expressed back in 2016. We survived that but not without much harm, and this time we can expect so much worse.
2020:Pond clean up. Taken on Hamlin between Ainslie and Argyle in Chicago. Today is the last day of the 70 degree weather we have been enjoying. So I decided given that and that I will be starting my new job next week, I cleaned up some of the yard and the pond. There always needs to be at least one pond photo.2018: New sidewalks. Taken on Lincoln at Leland in Chicago. 2016:Home -- trying to find some light. Taken on Lawrence and Spaulding in Chicago. They say that photographs say more about the person who takes them than about the subject being photographed. So when I walked out of the house this morning in the hope of clearing my head -- I tried to look for something that looked as bad as I felt --- but there was nothing like that to be found. Instead I found the culturally diverse neighborhood that I call home. It is time that we bridge our differences in Chicago and realize that we must find common cause because the real forces of hatred, misogyny and racism that are out there are after all of us. So it is hard to find any light or even to know where to direct the incredible anger and sorrow that I feel, but I resolve to start locally and make Albany Park and Chicago a better place for everyone who lives here. As for the rest of the country -- well, they have chosen to fuck themselves -- let’s just make sure that they don’t take us all down with them.2016:Not My America, Not My President. Taken at the Anti-Trump Rally in the Loop and River North in Chicago. #Organize #Protest #Resist “They sentenced me to twenty years of boredom for trying to change the system from within. I’m coming now, I’m coming to reward them. First we take Manhattan, then we take Berlin.” Leonard Cohen. [Replace with the cities and states of your choice.] More than one photo of the day -- rules are made to be broken.2012:I know this key opens this. Taken on Massachusetts Ave between 18th and 17th in Washington DC
