2024: Hiding from the TV, but Checking Our Phones. Taken on Sunnyside east of Lincoln in Chicago.

It is election day. I am writing this before the polls close in Chicago – so, well before we know anything about the results of the election. As I write this, I am not sure what photo I will even lead this with. I did take a few photos canvassing the last 85 doors in Benton Harbor this morning – but I was more anxious to finish the door knocking. Friends are coming over this evening – to share our community, sisterhood, and friendships together. Nothing will surpise me tonight and in the coming days. Nothing will match the elation I felt in 2008 when Obama won the first time and I celebrated with all of Chicago in Grant Park. And nothing will match the trauma of Trump winning in 2016 when I drove back from Iowa with my radio off. I have no illusions about the millions of people who will vote for Trump today either because they believe in his hatred, racism, homophobia, misogyny and xenophobia or because they excuse it, which is pretty much the same thing. So whatever happens tonight and in the days ahead, we will fight and we will do it together with love. PS – I led with this photo with our friends who came together to share our anxiety.

2024: And still we wait. Taken on Home Ave between Lexington and Harvard in Oak Park, IL. Election day is over and the counting continues. Every day things look and feel a little better. But like these pumpkins after Halloween -- everything is in limbo and time feels like it stopped -- while they count ballots in PA, NV, GA and AZ -- but they are all counted now in WI and MI.
2018: One day more. Taken at the Underwood campaign office on E. Van Buren St. on the Square in Woodstock, IL. I can’t imagine what this will be like in 2020. Let’s hope we win tomorrow and make it to then in one piece. Act! Resist! Vote!
2016: Hard to find people at home when its 70 degrees in November. Taken on E. Post Rd in Marion, Iowa
2012: Dentist. Taken on Armitage Ave between Pulaski and Kostner
