2024: More Pride Less Prejudice. Taken on Hiawatha Pioneer Trail in Ottawa, IL

As part of the Ottawa Family Pride Festival, there is a parade that goes through downtown between the two parks where the booths and performances take place. This year, the parade featured candidates, horses, cars, marchers, and a band. There is definitely something special about Pride events in smaller towns where they can be such an affirming space especially for young people.

2020: Black Lives Matter. Taken on Damen just south of 22nd Street in Chicago. This was a rally in Pilsen on the anniversary of the murder of Rudy Lozano and a demonstration of black/brown unity.
2018: Learning how to watch for the third rail. Taken at the Western Brown Line stop at Western and Leland in Chicago. I was waiting for the Brown Line train when I say this instructor teaching his “class” how to walk on the rail lines and avoid the third rail which everyone learns in electrified. I always avoid all rails and preferably all tracks in an over abundance of caution.
2016: Trying to figure out which way to go. Taken along M22 near Northport in Leelanau County, Michigan
2012: You can play soccer anywhere. Taken along the waterfront in Cobh, Ireland
