2024: The Cicada. Taken at the Fenwick High School Athletic Fields in Forest Park, IL

There was so much news and drama around all of the Cicadas that were going to be appearing after 17 years. People covered even covered their trees! And the cicadas did come to the western suburbs. Here in Chicago we figured that they were just going to come a little later since we are cooler by the Lake. However, we never had any cicadas at all. And since it has only been 17 years since this brood last appeared, you would think that everyone would have known that the cicadas were not going to be here, but I guess that wouldn't have been much of a news story. Today we went to Liam's soccer game in Forest Park (western suburb) – and we finally got to see and hear the cicadas.

2020: Being Heard. Taken on Lawrence at Keeler in Chicago. The protests against the Chicago Police Department and for civilian control continue. Today the protest was in my ward- the 39th. A short march from Montrose and Pulaski to the Alderman’s office on Lawrence a few blocks west. CPD was out in force since they seem most interested in serving and protecting themselves and the aldermen who support them. Their presence and provocative attitude just gave all of us more energy and determination.
2018: Our culture of guns and violence. Taken at St. Sabina’s Church at 78th Street and Racine in Chicago. The annual Peace March was held at St. Sabina’s protesting guns and violence and making a statement for a peaceful summer with the end of the school year for the Chicago Public Schools. This year it was also the launch of Chicago Strong and the Parkland kids national tour. As people entered the parking lot where the event was held, they walked past an art display called the “metro gun share program” that shows that getting a gun is as easy as renting a bike. The display had been in Daley Plaza for a few days but is now on display at St. Sabina’s. These kids’ expressions say it all.
2016: Determination. Taken on the front porch on 7th NE between K and L in Washington DC
2012: Signing In. Taken at an SEIU Justice for Janitors' action at Dearborn and Madison
