2024: Liz and the Hungry Ghosts. Taken on SE 29th Ave just south of Burnside in Portland, OR
There was no way we were going to be in Portland and not figure out a way to see dear friends Liz and Sarah (and meeting Charlie, their not so new dog). It had been a while. Since they were recovering from COVID, we did it the way we would have done it in 2020 – outside and socially distanced. It was a wonderful visit. Liz is a very creative artist – and she introduced us to some of her chickens, and in this photo, to her Hungry Ghosts.
2020: Black Lives Matter in Evanston too. Taken at Lighthouse Beach off Sheridan Road north of Northwestern University in Evanston, IL. I joined a protest in Evanston that occurred in response to an incident on the beach there. A couple put a large confederate flag beach towel on a fence where they were sitting, and it was ignored by most of the people on the beach - who were White, because it was mostly white people who felt welcome at Lighthouse Beach. It wasn’t until some Black activists were alerted that the racist flag displaying beach goers were confronted. At this protest the racism in Evanston was called out.2018: Once a church. Taken on Chestnut Street and 3rd Ave in Cambria City, Johnstown, PA. At a used bookstore, I struck up a conversation with two women who told me that I should check at the music at VOMA (Venue of Merging Arts) in Cambria City. I couldn’t make it, but I asked my sister about it. She told me that she thought it was in the building where we used to go to Church. So when I was on my way out of town, I couldn’t resist stopping by to check it out. It definitely was St. George Serbian Orthodox Church where I spent many Sundays. It was kind of perfect that this car was in front since it looks like it was also around when it was a church.2016: Paddling at Pyramid Pt. Take on Lake Michigan just off of Pyramid Point in Sleeping Bear National Lakeshore in Leelanua County, MI 2012: Do you have a light? Taken on Connecticut Ave. north of Dupont Circle in Washington DC.
