2024: The Smallest Chick. Taken at the Montrose Pier in Chicago.

We were on Piping Plover Monitor duty today. Only two chicks of the original four have made it to today. Mony watched one of them and I watched this one, the smaller of the two (with the left band). It was busy eating for most of the two hours that we were there. However, the day after I took this photo, there was more bad news. This chick was taken to the Lincoln Park Zoo about 24 hours after I took this photo, and it did not make it. So we now have one Piping Plover chick to look out for. It is a tough world for Piping Plovers generally and especially for chicks. Although four eggs are laid, only an average of 1.5 chicks survives to fledge at 23 days, and that number is lower for first time parents like Imani and Sea Rocket.

2020: Back in the playground. Taken at Maple Park on Maple between Lexington and Roosevelt in Oak Park, IL. Playgrounds have been closed since everything shutdown in March. Now they are opening back up with social distancing. She had it to herself today.
2018: An Albany Park regular. Taken on Lawrence Ave and Springfield in Chicago. I often seeing him sitting on Lawrence Ave. Usually he is with friends, but today he was watching the world go by alone.
2016: A meadow back up North. Taken on Sugar Bay Lane just off of Lime Lake Rd in Leelanau County, MI
2012: The Middle Class. Taken at the SEIU Janitors Strike in the Gallaria area of Houston
