It's All About the Shute

It's All About the Shute

Over the years, I've come to appreciate Halloween more and more.  It is our one holiday that is more about community and neighbors and not just about family and friends.  After all what is more communal that knocking on neighbors' doors and giving to all who come.   And in Chicago, the kids of all ages and reflect the diversity of our City – at least in the neighborhoods I live in and frequent.  So last year, COVID made this, like many things, more difficult.   But people rose to the occasion to discover "contactless" was of giving out treats.  For some it was tables with candy - and for us it was a PVC pipe along the bannister where we could stay on the porch and pass candy down the shute to the kids who held up their bags.  It was so much fun that we did it again this year – and even more fun was taking photos of the kids who waited at the bottom of the shute for their candy.
