Mony's cousin and her family live in Barcelona. When we told them that we would be visiting, the invited us to dinner at their home and treated us to a Catalan tradition of the Calçotada – where calçots, a special Catalan spring onion, are grilled, peeled and then served with a sauce. Luis grilled them perfectly, and Blanquita, Mony's cousin, and behind her, her daughter Txell, are demonstrating the proper form for eating them. We also enjoyed other Catalan treats, along with Spanish Black/Red Vermouth, an Albariño Spanish white wine, and Mezcal – from Mexico of course via Chicago.
2020: Pigeon Highway. Taken at the Belmont Red/Brown/Purple line stop in Chicago. 2018: Protect Kids and Everyone else. Taken during the March for Gun Reform on Dearborn between Federal Plaza and the Daley Center in Chicago. There was a large crowd for the March today -- in the thousands. People were angry -- or at least I was. What made it different than others was the number of families and kids that were attending. Lets make this something that is the beginning, and not just another outrage followed by whatever comes next.2016:Waiting for the bus.
