Fight for Our Future

Fight for Our Future
The Planet is in Our Hands. Taken near Daley Plaza at an XR Rally on October 7, 2019.

I had hoped to have an Earth Day activism photo from this year, but everything conspired against me. We got a late start because we waited for a delivery. Then the train was delayed.  Then the train stopped 3 stops before mine, and we had to take a shuttle.  Then the shuttle skipped my stop altogether.  Then as I walked back to where I would need to catch a bus to get to the Earth Day Pedal for the Planet Bike Jam, it started sleeting.  When the bus I needed to catch pulled out before I could get there, I gave up. Not all of these photos were taken on Earth Day, but they were all taken at events demanding that we protect our planet and fight for our future.

Ringing the alarm for a climate emergency. Taken at an XR Protest to protect the Amazon on September 5, 2019.
Three Reactions to our Planet in Crisis. I took this photo at Federal Plaza on September 20, 2019 – and this is what I wrote then: Love this photo. I am not sure what exactly they were reacting to today at the Youth Climate Strike when they were “on stage” to speak, but this is what I imagine. The one of the right’s expression matches her shirt “believe there is good in the world.” And the rather sad look on the middle girl reflects our cruelty to the sick planet that she drew. And we can’t see the sign that the girl on the left is holding, but her expressions says “WTF have you done.”
Not Just Young People. Most of the climate actions have been taken by young people as was the case with this one. But not everyone is young. Taken at Federal Plaza on May 3, 2019.
Our House is On Fire. I took this photo in 2019 but used it in 2021 for light projection to demand that Congress pass the Freedom to Vote act since if you care about climate action we need to defend our democracy. Taken near Federal Plaza on May 3, 2019.
Die In to protect the planet. Taken at Daley Plaza on October 7, 2019.
Fight for Our Future. All of the climate strikes and actions from 2019 stopped with COVID. Earth Day was a much smaller affair although the heavy rains through much of the day didn't help. Taken at Federal Plaza on April 22, 2022.
Strike Back. The 2019 climate strikes were mostly led by high school students and some college students. I have photos of so many of them, and hope that they are continuing their activism wherever they are now. Taken during a March to Daley Plaza on October 7, 2019.
