December 25

You can have warmth or sun in the Midwest in the winter – but not both. It was in the 40's today – so again there was no sun. It was also a quiet Christmas Day – so Mony and went to the Lakefront for a walk. There were few people and few birds. After the others in this family had given up getting a bird to eat from their hands, this girl dressed as a zebra remained determined and thought she would stand on her tiptoes to get just a little closer!

2020: The third game of the day. Taken on Home Ave between Lexington and Harvard in Oak Park, IL. We spent part of Christmas playing games: first Bokus, then Train to Ride, then cards. It was starting to get a little intense here.
2018: Inside the Tunnel. Taken at the Staple Bend portage tunnel in Johnstown Pennsylvania. In 1834 a railroad ran from Hollidaysburg to Johnstown connecting canals and rivers to get goods from Philadelphia to Pittsburgh which was the gateway to the west at the time. To cross the Alleghenys they built the first railroad tunnel near Johnstown. It was done by hand by Welsh immigrants who had been miners in Wales. By 1851 the entire system of rail, canal and inclined planes were replaced by more powerful railroads. There is now a hiking path that follows the Conemaugh River. The path goes from Mineral Point to the tunnel and then on to Johnstown. Freight trains still follow the same path nearer the River, and in 1889 the river was the path of the Johnstown Flood when the South Fork Dam broke. How is that for a bit of history.
2016: Enjoying the ride. Taken on Lawrence between Spaulding and Sawyer in Chicago.
2012: Christmas in Johnstown. Taken on Twin Drive in Johnstown, PA
