December 6 We took a wonderful hike on the Tahquitz Canyon trail in the hills above Palm Springs in the morning, then drove through Joshua Tree National Park in the afternoon. We had time for one hike there and chose the Hidden Valley Nature Trail which was a great choice. Here is
December 5 When we arrived in Palm Springs a few days ago, we went searching for birds in this small park not too far from our hotel. Just as we were leaving, we saw three roadrunners. I had only seen one once before and that was just a quick glipse – so needless
December 4 I was on zoom calls most of the day, although I did do some of them outdoors. So it was already late in the afternoon before I could get out for a walk. I decided to got west from the hotel towards the mountain for some something different. As I
December 3 There is no better way to celebrate Mony's birthday than to go looking for hummingbirds. We found this little park and sat there and watched the hummingbirds fiercely defend their flowers. Because they were so intent on the threat of other hummingbirds – they paid no attention to us.
December 2 We flew to Palm Springs this morning because Mony is attending an Equality Federation Conference. I joined her to enjoy her company and some sum (a lot of sun). We had a few hours once we arrived before the conference began so we headed to the closest park to look
December 1 Within a few days of each other are Emma and Mony's birthday – as well as Emma's friend Logan. Since Emma was not leaving to go back to Boston until tomorrow, we celebrated all three birthdays together and they jointly blew out the candles.
November 30 Indivisible Chicago hosted a second community gathering because "We Are Worth Fighting For." Today we had over 40 people even though it is a Saturday afternoon on a holiday weekend and really cold. At the beginning of each session we start by asking people how they are coming
November 28 The best part of Thanksgiving is spending the whole day in the kitchen cooking with my wife. Mony and I cooked all day, and this was the result. The salads were on the dining room table and the pie is hiding on the counter – and they were my primary contributions.
November 27 We made a trip to our favorite fish monger to get something special for our Thanksgiving dinner to go with the turkey that the rest of the family would be eating.
November 26 The sun came out, and I took advantage of it for a quick walk between calls. I am not sure about this photo – I took it quickly and didn't even think that my reflection would be there. It's the best I have for today.
November 25 Obviously, I didn't take this photo. Betty took it with my camera, and for a change I liked a photo of me – so here it is. A coalition of national organizations under the banner of "We Are Worth Fighting For" encouraged organizations and individuals to host
November 24 I always tell myself that I am going to walk on Lawrence to Pulaski, the street where I have taken so many photos, but then never make time for that long of a walk. But today I wanted a long walk, so that is what I did. It was gray
November 23 We went to Pilsen for lunch with friends and then took a walk. It was gray as most days seem to be these days, and for a Saturday, there didn't seem to be too many people out and about. Despite all the gentrification in Pilsen, parts of it
November 22 It is a few weeks after the election now. Despite the outcome, we at Indivisible Chicago still wanted to recongize all the work of our many hundreds of volunteers who spent weekends canvassing in Michigan and Wisconsin, evenings phone banking voters, days sending texts, and many hours writing postcards. So
November 21 I had the best of intentions to go out and get a decent photo today. When it snowed, I figured – that will make for a good photo. And when it was getting late in the day, I figured – the snow will make things brighter. And when it got really windy,
November 20 The only breaks I had today between my many meetings and zoom calls, I used to get ready for our first frost and snow. So, I brought in some plants and shut down the outdoor fountain. When I finished the last call at 8pm, I went to the roof to
November 19 They were posting flyers for a music concert – so it had nothing to do with the parking meter except for creating a surface to tape up the flyer.
November 18 Early in the evening and early in the week without any postcard parties means that Gideon Wells is a very quiet place. I met two co-workers there, and for a while we were the only other ones there.
November 17 Lately getting a photo to post has been a chore. Even when I have been out for a walk, it seems that I am lost in my head mostly thinking about the consequences of this election instead of really looking and seeing what is around me. At least I managed
November 16 We were out running errands and drove across Lawrence Ave and through Albany Park. We took advantage of being there to stop for some Mexican candy. I love this store. The doors are always locked and they have to let us in. Almost always we have been the only customers.
November 15 I took a little bit of a longer walk and away for Lincoln Square, but still on Lincoln Ave. There were a lot of kids waiting for Irving Park bus.
November 14 The only reason I am not sitting on that chair is because I got up to take this photo. It was gray and rainy, and I was on zoom meetings all day – even now as I write this!
November 13 There is so little time for photos right now. I did get out when I went to meet someone from work for lunch today and took this photo.
November 12 It is getting dark so much earlier now – and I have zoom calls in the evenings as we all plan to resist and take action when the attacks to our communities and democracy come. So I took advantage of a lunch break for a quick walk and some photos.
