2024: In a Kayak Together. Taken on the Clayoquot Sound between Tofino and Meares Island, BC, Canada.

I love kayaking, so we couldn't be so close to such a wonderful place to paddle without going out. We went on a guided paddle from Tofino across the sound to Meares Island. The water was pretty flat, but the currents and tides are so different from anything on the Great Lakes. Mony and I shared a tandem kayak and I was in the front – so the only way to get a photo of her was in a selfie with me. In addition to the joy of being on the water paddling, we also learned of the activism led by the Indigeneous peoples that prevented clear cut logging in the area.

2020: What Doesn’t Kill Me. Taken on 18th Street just west of Ashland in Chicago. There are a lot of signs requiring masks. Some are handwritten, others are official looking. Some want to blame the government. Others appeal to our desire for safety for ourselves and others. I think this may be my favorite taken when I was in Pilsen donating books as I worked to clean the basement.
2018: Busy shopping day in Traverse City. Taken on Front Street at Cass in Traverse City, Michigan
2016: Ready to go. Taken in Fishtown in Leland, MI.
2012: Standing together. Taken on Lawrence Ave between Central Park and Kimball.
